Approval of $44,200 in additional grant funding from the Illinois Department of Public Health
To the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has provided the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center (LCHD/CHC) Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) with $44,200 in additional funding for the 2015-2016 grant year. This funding will be used to cover the clinical costs for uninsured women enrolled in the IBCCP program. The original amount received for the 2015-2016 grant year was $372,510. With this increase, the total award is increased to $416,710.
Each grant year, the IBCCP program receives a set amount of clinical dollars which are to be used during the grant year to cover the cost of clinical services for enrolled women. In the 2015-2016 grant year, LCHD/CHC originally received $199,859 in clinical funding. Based on the high demand for services, this allotted money was expended by February 2016. The additional $44,200 will help to ensure that women enrolled in the program are able to receive clinical services throughout the grant year. Clinical funds are managed by the IBCCP staff. Expenses are based upon agreed rates with area specialty providers who administer the clinical services (screening and diagnostic mammograms).
The IBCCP program addresses LCHD/CHC's strategic plan by specifically addressing the strategic priority area "Emphasis on Prevention: Access to Prevention and Wellness." The program in particular provides access to preventative cancer screenings for women who are uninsured.
