Joint resolution authorizing the application, acceptance, and emergency appropriation of a 2011 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $10,921 for the purpose of enhancing the Cyber Crimes Unit.

Staff Summary

                     This is an application for the federal Justice Assistant Grant Program. This funding supports a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system.

                     Under this program, the City of Waukegan and the County of Lake, on behalf of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, are eligible for a joint award of $10,921 in FFY2011 grant funds.

                     The potential allocation of the eligible funds is $10,921 to the County of Lake, on behalf of the State’s Attorney’s Office, and $35,513 to the City of Waukegan.

                     The State’s Attorney’s Office will use the $10,921 to enhance our Cyber Crime Unit and Felony and Misdemeanor Trial preparation, presentation and transportation.

                     The source of program funding is 100% federal JAG. No match is required.

                     The program funds allocated to the State’s Attorney’s Office will support purchase of forensic software, computer equipment, and office equipment.

RESOLUTION

 

                     WHEREAS, the County of Lake on behalf of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office and the City of Waukegan has applied for an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant that provides grant monies to local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office will use this funding to support evidence, file management and courtroom presentations; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant is in the amount of $10,921 and it is necessary to appropriate this amount; and

 

                     WHEREAS, it is necessary and required by the Granting Agency that a Memorandum of Understanding between the County of Lake and City of Waukegan be executed in order to define how the grant funds will be disbursed.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the acceptance and execution of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant from the United State Department of Justice for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is hereby authorized; and

 

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an emergency appropriation in the amount of $10,921 is hereby authorized for the JAG 2010 Program in 101-3330010-79950-000-000-000-(reporting category to be set by the controller), with offsetting revenue of $10,921 in 101-3330010-45330-000-000-000-(reporting category to be set by the Controller).
