Title

Report on the Northern Lake County Lake Michigan Water Planning Group.

Body

The County along with seven villages and the Lake County Public Water District are members of the Northern Lake County Lake Michigan Water Planning Group who have met regularly since September 2006 to explore delivery of Lake Michigan water to member communities.

The Planning Group includes the County, Antioch, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Wauconda, Lake Zurich and Volo, as well as the Lake County Public Water District.

Each of the members has received a Lake Michigan water allocation from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).

The Planning Group members have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding pursuant to which they have agreed to share the cost of preparing the various agreements necessary to create a new Joint Action Water Agency.

Money to fund additional efforts is expected to be available by June 2011.

The Planning Group has developed a Technical Group made up of appointed representatives and a Policy Group made up of elected officials from each member. These groups are meeting monthly to continue discussions and planning regarding the proposed project.
