Joint resolution authorizing an emergency appropriation for FFY 2007 US Department of Justice (DOJ) Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) #407406 administered through the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA), to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office for a maximum total of $138,318 in federal funds to implement a Community Awareness and Outreach program.
Staff Summary
· This is a grant for a Community Awareness and Outreach program that significantly enhance the State’s Attorney’s Office’s capacity to provide crime-related awareness, prevention, and education materials to schools, citizen groups, victims and witnesses of crime, law enforcement, and entire communities.
· Through this program, the State’s Attorney’s Office will accomplish community outreach through print and electronic materials strategically distributed to target populations, through presentations by a newly-formalized Speaker’s Bureau, through funding assistance to the annual GirlWise conference, and through funding of a Multidisciplinary Sexual Assault Response conference.
· The program will fund several projects, each of which target a specific crime or community issue, including domestic violence, drug abuse, gangs and juvenile delinquency, cyber and internet crimes, adult sexual assault and child sexual abuse, elder abuse, mental health issues, and environmental crime issues.
· The grant program is for the period of March 15, 2011 to September 30, 2011 and is 75% funded by federal JAG dollars in the maximum amount of $138,318, and a 25% cash match in the maximum amount of $46,106 is required.
· No match funds are being requested from the County’s general fund, but are being provided from the State’s Attorney’s Money Laundering Forfeiture Fund.
