Resolution recognizing the contributions of Suzi Schmidt for her 22 years of service as a Member of the Lake County Board including 10 years as County Board Chairman.
Body
WHEREAS, Suzi Schmidt was first elected to the County Board in 1988 and elected as Chairman in 2000, being the first woman to serve as County Board Chairman in the history of Lake County; and
WHEREAS, Suzi Schmidt was elected to the Illinois Senate in November 2010 and will continue to represent Lake County residents, but now as a State Senator; and
WHEREAS, in her tenure on the County Board, she has influenced countless decisions that improved Lake County and the quality of life for all residents; and
WHEREAS, Suzi Schmidt is known for her ability to build consensus on the County Board, fostering cooperation with all members on both sides of the aisle, working on behalf of residents, and in the best interest of the entire county; and
WHEREAS, Suzi Schmidt can be credited with building partnerships with residents, businesses and other stakeholders, and collaborating with regional, state, and federal agencies to address transportation issues, and improve economic development; and
WHEREAS, in her role as chairman, she represented Lake County across the region, state and country through various leadership positions with a multitude of agencies and organizations; and
WHEREAS, Suzi Schmidt has always been a champion for fiscal responsibility, and prudent, conservative budget principles that preserve the long-term health of the county, and often used the mantra -- “We don’t spend money we don’t have,” and
WHEREAS, Suzi Schmidt’s love for Lake County comes through in everything she does, her passion for public service and helping people is unequivocal, and while she will no longer be on the Lake County Board, her legacy will continue to live on; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that we do hereby recognize and commend Suzi Schmidt...
