Resolution honoring veterans.

 

Body

                     WHEREAS, the United States recognizes its veterans by celebrating their courage and sacrifice every November 11th on Veterans Day and throughout the year, and

 

                     WHEREAS, many residents of Lake County have served in America’s Armed Forces and many are currently serving on active duty, and

 

                     WHEREAS, Lake County has a veteran population of 40,000 and the Veteran’s Assistance Commission of Lake County is currently serving 9,000 veterans or their families, and

 

                     WHEREAS, some individuals have paid the ultimate price for freedom by sacrificing their lives for the safety and security of Americans everywhere, including the 23 Lake County Veterans who have died on active duty since September 11th, and

 

                     WHEREAS, Veterans of Lake County contribute more than 100,000 hours of volunteer service through various Veteran Service Organizations, and

 

                     WHEREAS, Lake County has a unique role in our nation’s defense as the home of Great Lakes Naval Station which will be celebrating its centennial next year

 

                     WHEREAS, in addition to the many ceremonies and services held last week throughout the county, Lake County honored Veteran’s Day by displaying the original sculptor’s model of the Marine Corps War Memorial in the lobby of the courthouse.

 

                     NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lake County Board hereby recognizes the sacrifice of America’s veterans and hopes for the safe return of the men and women who are currently serving to defend American freedom and values; and

 

                     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lake County Board takes this occasion to recommit itself to upholding the principles of liberty, opportunity and justice for every citizen of Lake County, Illinois, and the United States of America.
