Resolution authorizing the approval of the County Elected Official Compensation Policy.
Staff Summary
• At the direction of the Financial and Administrative Committee, staff has drafted a policy that establishes a framework for consistent and equitable compensation levels for Lake County Elected Officials, including County-wide Elected Officials, the County Board Chair and County Board Members.
• The policy stipulates that the compensation for each elected official will be increased by the same percentage as the County Board approved percentage for non-union staff in the most recently approved fiscal year budget.
• If this results in a salary amount less than other elected officials of the same type, the salary will be increased to the same salary as the other in that type, in order to maintain parity amongst elected officials.
• At the March 12, 2024, County Board meeting, the policy was sent back to the Financial and Administrative Committee, where on March 21, 2024, the committee amended the policy to include clarifying language in sections 1.4, 5.1 and 5.2.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the County Board is charged with establishing compensation for County Elected Officials by Illinois Statute; and
WHEREAS, to establish a framework for consistent and equitable compensation levels for Lake County Elected Officials including all County-wide Elected Officials, the County Board Chair and County Board Members; and
WHEREAS, the attached establishes a policy to guide Elected Official compensation, though nothing in the policy shall be construed to replace or override authorities or responsibilities in Illinois Statute.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the attached County Elected Official Compensation Policy is approved.
