Special Recognition honoring all first responders and agencies who responded to the deadly mass shooting during the Independence Day Parade in Highland Park, Illinois on July 4, 2022.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, hundreds of people came to Central Avenue and 2nd Street, in downtown Highland Park, Lake County, Illinois, on July 4, 2022, to watch and participate in the Independence Day parade; and
WHEREAS, at approximately 10:14 a.m., a lone gunman opened fire, murdering seven people, and wounding dozens of others; and
WHEREAS, hundreds of local, regional, state, and federal-law enforcement agencies, fire and EMS departments, dispatch centers, and volunteers- responded; and
WHEREAS, they actively pursued the shooter, tended to the wounded and injured, reunited children with their families, assisted in evacuating parade attendees; and
WHEREAS, these first responders sprang into action, risking their lives to assist and save the lives of complete strangers; and
WHEREAS, many other local, regional, state and federal personnel, volunteers, community-based organizations and medical personnel have stepped up by offering numerous critically needed resources for the recovery and healing process; and
WHEREAS, we honor and recognize the individuals who responded that day, and continue to recognize them for their life saving efforts, contributions and dedication for those impacted by this despicable event.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, the Lake County Board honors these first responders, agencies and others for their tireless and fearless commitment and devotion to the safety of our communities and families.
