Illinois Department of Natural Resources - Zebra/Quagga Mussels Grant - Mackey

Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center (LCHD/CHC) received funding of $72,000.00 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The purpose of the funding is to gain a better understanding of the zebra/quagga mussel infestation in Lake County and to educate lake users on Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) prevention and management strategies. This project will involve the detection and evaluation of lakes in Lake County through monitoring zebra/quagga mussel presence and density. This project will have three focuses: (1) monitoring zebra/quagga mussel populations in select Lake County lakes that will be scalable to other lakes; (2) developing zebra/quagga mussel and ANS outreach including researched recommendations for zebra/quagga mussel (ZM/QM) control and mitigation, including methods, costs/benefits, and long-term strategies; (3) ANS education in the format of a limnology curriculum focusing on the study, control and mitigation of zebra/quagga mussel and other ANS. The period of performance is March 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023. This grant will be used to procure a contractual vendor to perform these activities.

To approve the Zebra/Quagga Mussel funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and emergency appropriate $72,000.00 for LCFY22.
