Title

Resolution directing the Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals to conduct a public hearing on proposed text amendments to Chapter 151 of the Lake County, Illinois, Code of Ordinances relating to wildlife rehabilitation, ecotherapy, and animal exhibition uses in unincorporated Lake County.

Staff Summary

Throughout summer 2021, staff presented a discussion series on various proposed zoning amendments to the Lake County Code of Ordinances focused on wildlife rehabilitation, ecotherapy, and animal exhibition uses.

The amendments would establish a new ‘ecotherapy’ use within the Community Services use category, include revisions to the Wildlife Rehabilitation use category, and establish a new ‘Entertainment-oriented Animal Exhibition Facility’ use within the Outdoor Recreation and Entertainment use category. The final draft, attached as “Exhibit A”, reflects committee feedback and input from subject matter experts.

A resolution has been prepared for County Board action directing the Zoning Board of Appeals to conduct a public hearing on the proposed amendments.
