Special Recognition of May 1, 2022 through May 7, 2022 as National Correctional Officers Week.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, introduced and approved by the 98th United States Congress, as Senate Joint Resolution 132 to honor correctional officers and correctional personnel nationwide, May 1 through May 7, 2021 is designated as National Correctional Officers Week; and
WHEREAS, correctional officers are responsible for the supervision of individuals arrested, convicted, and/or sentenced for criminal offenses. The supervision of such individuals takes place in the Lake County Adult Correctional Facility, including the Community-Based Correctional Center offering Periodic Imprisonment and Electronic Home Monitoring; and
WHEREAS, the Lake County Adult Correctional Facility protects the public by housing individuals who have committed criminal offenses and keeping them separate from the community; and
WHEREAS, preparing individuals for reintegration into the community is critical in protecting the public's safety. The Lake County Adult Correctional Facility partners with outside agencies such as the Lake County Health Department, and non-profit, educational and faith-based organizations to provide inmate programming and mentoring services to ensure a successful re-entry into the community; and
WHEREAS, a career in corrections is challenging. Corrections personnel must maintain a constant state of heightened vigilance, adhere to strict security protocols, and perform their duties with the threat of exposure to violent events; and
WHEREAS, the dedication and courage of our corrections personnel were especially highlighted during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, as specific protocols and mitigation strategies were implemented to protect the health and safety of those in custody as well as corrections personnel.
