Ordinance setting the size of the County Board; setting the method of election of County Board Members; setting the method of election of the County Board Chairman; and setting the method of compensation for County Board Members.

ORDINANCE

WHEREAS, the Illinois Compiled Statutes, Chapter 55, Section 5/2-3001, et seq., requires the Lake County Board to reapportion the County following the decennial census; and

WHEREAS, as part of that reapportionment process, the Lake County Board must first determine: (1) the size of the County Board to be elected; (2) whether board members shall be elected at large or by County Board districts; (3) how the Chairman of the County Board shall be elected; and (4) how County Board members will be compensated.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois that:
1. The size of the Lake County Board to be elected in 2022 shall be 19. Said Board size shall continue in effect until the next Lake County Board Reapportionment.
2. The members of the Lake County Board shall be elected by single member County Board districts. Said method of election shall continue in effect until the next Lake County Board reapportionment.
3. The Chairman of the Lake County Board shall be elected by the members of the Lake County Board. Said method of election for the Chairman shall continue in effect until the next Lake County Board reapportionment.
4. The method of compensation for Lake County Board members shall be by annual salary. If the Lake County Board desires to change this method of payment after fixing said method and before the next Lake County Board Reapportionment, it may do so by amending this Ordinance provided that such amendment shall not take effect during that term for which an incumbent County Board Member has been elected.

BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that the County Clerk is hereby authorized to distribute a certified copy of this Ordinance to the County Administrator.
