Special recognition of July 2021 as Americans with Disabilities Month in Lake County.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, Lake County affirms the principals of equality and inclusion for persons with disabilities, as set forth for in the Americans with Disabilities Act and as exemplified by the State of Illinois, to ensure that people with disabilities be fully integrated into the fabric of our society; and
WHEREAS, the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was signed into law on July 26, 1990, established a comprehensive national mandate to eliminate discrimination against individuals with disabilities and expanded opportunities for Americans with disabilities by reducing barriers, changing perceptions and increasing participation in community life; and
WHEREAS, Lake County is committed to increase access and opportunities to all, including individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, people of all backgrounds contribute to our democracy and strengthen our communities, culture and economy; and
WHEREAS, numerous community organizations and agencies provide valuable resources to people with disabilities, their families and caregivers that promote equal opportunity, economic power, and independent living; and
WHEREAS, Lake County condemns all verbal or non-verbal attacks, harassment, or intimidation based on mental or physical disability.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, the Lake County Board does hereby recognize July 2021 as Americans with Disabilities Month in Lake County and calls upon residents, employers, schools, and community organizations to advance the important message that people with disabilities add value and talent to our communities.
