Staff Summary
• In February 2021, the County Board created the Reapportionment Committee to review the 2020 Census data and recommend a reapportionment plan for Lake County.
• The Reapportionment Committee would have ceased to exist upon the filing of its Reapportionment Plan with the County Clerk by July 1, 2021 or by the day after the first County Board meeting in July (July 14, 2021).
• Due to significant delays by the United States Census Bureau in providing Counties with 2020 Census data used for reapportionment, the Illinois General Assembly extended its reapportionment deadline.
• This resolution extends the Reapportionment Committee through December 31, 2021 or until such time as the 2021 Reapportionment Plan is filed with the Lake County Clerk.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, this County Board previously established a Reapportionment Committee on February 9, 2021 to make recommendations to this County Board regarding its statutory obligations relative to the required 2021 reapportionment; and
WHEREAS, said Reapportionment Committee would originally have ceased to exist upon the filing of the Reapportionment Plan with the County Clerk or on July 14, 2021; and
WHEREAS, the United States Census Bureau has experienced significant delays in providing Counties with the 2020 Census data used for reapportionment; and
WHEREAS, because of the census data delay and a recent extension of the reapportionment deadline by the Illinois General Assembly, it is now necessary to extend the term of the Lake County Reapportionment Committee in order for it to complete its work.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the previously appointed Reapportionment Committee is hereby extended through December 31, 2021 or until such time as the 2021 Reapportionment Plan is filed with the Lake County Clerk; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the members previously named to said Reapportionment Committee shall continue as members during this extended period, i.e.: Chair Hart, Vice-Chair Cunningham, Member Clark, Member Danforth, Member Kyle, Member Pedersen and Member Vealitzek; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Administrator shall continue to coordinate the staff support necessary to accomplish the duties of the Reapportionment Committee; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Clerk is hereby authorized to distribute a certified copy of this Resolution to the Members cited above and the County Administrator.
