Discussion on proposed text amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance of Lake County, Illinois (Chapter 151 of the Lake County, Illinois Code of Ordinances) relating to the regulation of adult-use cannabis businesses.
Staff Summary
• At the direction of the Lake County Board, the Lake County Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) conducted a public hearing on April 19 and April 21, 2021 to consider proposed text amendments that would allow adult-use cannabis businesses in the unincorporated area subject to restrictions.
• The proposed zoning amendments to the Lake County Code considered by the ZBA were based on the Adult-Use Cannabis Task Force’s model regulations and additional research on best practices conducted during the County’s moratorium.
• Upon conclusion of the public hearing, the ZBA recommended by a vote of 7-0 that the proposed amendments (with modifications) be approved.
• Staff will present the details on the proposed amendments, including the recommendations from the Zoning Board of Appeals, for Committee discussion prior to bringing the amendments back for Committee action.
