Discussion regarding the sale of the abandoned Mundelein Water Reclamation Facility site in Vernon Hills to support the construction of a 2,000,000-gallon Vernon Hills water system storage reservoir.
Staff Summary
• An opportunity exists to purchase a site owned by the Village of Mundelein, within the Vernon Hills village limits, that would support the construction of a 2,000,000-gallon water reservoir.
• The location identified is the most favorable site out of 10 evaluated to support system requirements and use restrictions. This project is a top priority on the Public Works Capital Improvements Program list to support system storage requirements.
• The Village of Mundelein has approved moving forward with the sale of the property at a negotiated price of $425,000, with the stipulation that an easement will be granted for access to their existing buried infrastructure.
• Staff is seeking Committee concurrence to move forward with this opportunity. If
approval is granted, the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) will be presented for formal approval in March 2021.
