Staff Summary
• In May of 2020, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) applied for membership and funding of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) through the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP).
• The LCSO received notification on September 3, 2020, that it had been awarded $294,000.00. Grant funds will be primarily used to defray the cost of overtime specifically for HIDTA related investigations and for investigative supplies necessary for HIDTA investigations.
• The mission of the HIDTA Program is to enhance and coordinate America’s drug-control efforts among local, state and Federal law enforcement agencies in order to eliminate or reduce drug trafficking and its harmful consequences in critical regions of the United States.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office applied for a HIDTA grant in the amount of $294,000 and was awarded this grant; and,
WHEREAS, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office shall submit a grant request to use the funds towards partially towards overtime costs for HIDTA related investigation and investigative supplies necessary for HIDTA investigations; and,
WHEREAS, approval of this grant will provide necessary resources to address illegal drug operations and support HIDTA’s mission
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Chair of the Board, the Lake County Sheriff, and the Lake County Treasurer are hereby authorized to approve an emergency appropriation in the amount of $294,000.00 and execute the necessary documentation to accept said award.
