                     The (POW / MIA) Flag is designated in United States Code (U.S.) (36 U.S.C.A. § 902) as the symbol of our Nation’s concern and commitment to resolving the fates of members of the Armed Forces of the United States who are prisoner, missing, and unaccounted for.

                     Illinois State Statute (5 ILCS 465/1) states that the County Board may provide for the display of the “MIA Flag.”

                     Veterans Day is one of six days specifically listed in U.S. Code for the display of the POW / MIA Flag.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, The National League of Families Prisoner of War / Missing in Action (POW / MIA) Flag is designated in 36 U.S.C.A. § 902 as the symbol of our Nation’s concern and commitment to resolving as fully as possible the fates of Americans still prisoner, missing, and unaccounted; and,

 

WHEREAS, Illinois State Statute (5 ILCS 465/1) states that the County Board may provide for the display of an “MIA Flag;” and,

 

WHEREAS, it is the sense of the Lake County Board that members of the Armed Forces of the United States who are or were prisoners of war or reported missing in action should be honored and remembered for their service and sacrifice: and,  

 

WHEREAS, the display of the POW / MIA Flag by the Lake County Board symbolizes Lake County’s concern and commitment to achieving the fullest possible accounting of members of the Armed Forces of the United States who, having been prisoners of war or missing in action, still remain unaccounted for; and,

 

WHEREAS, Veterans Day is one of six days specifically listed in U.S. Code for displaying the POW / MIA Flag.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the POW / MIA Flag be raised on Veterans Day 2020 (November 11, 2020), in Lincoln Plaza at the Lake County Administrative Complex in Waukegan to honor and remember members of the Armed Forces of the United States who are, were, or may be in the future, prisoners of war, missing in action, or otherwise unaccounted for; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the POW / MIA Flag will be flown on the main flag staff directly below the United States national flag.
