Joint resolution authorizing an agreement with the State of Illinois/Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), for traffic signal improvements at the intersection of Illinois Route 131 and 14th Street/Casimir Pulaski Drive, and appropriating $20,000 of ¼% Sales Tax for Transportation funds.

 

Staff Summary

                     The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will be modernizing the existing traffic signals at the intersection of Illinois Route 131 and 14th Street/Pulaski Drive. 

                     This improvement will include replacement of the traffic signal controller, cabinet, posts, and mast arms.

                     IDOT has secured federal safety funds to pay up to 80 percent of the costs for the project.  

                     The County’s share of the project is for the improvements to 14th Street/Pulaski Drive and is estimated to be $16,675.

                     This project is included in the Transportation Improvement Program with construction expected to begin in 2020, and designated as Section 20-00999-75-TL.

R E S O L U T I O N

 

WHEREAS, 14th Street/Casimir Pulaski Drive, County Highway 78, is a designated route on the County Highway system; and

 

WHEREAS, the free flow of traffic at the intersection of Illinois Route 131 and 14th Street/Casimir Pulaski Drive is beneficial to the safety and welfare of the State of Illinois and the County as a whole; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of Illinois and Lake County believe it would be beneficial to the safety and welfare of the traveling public if the intersection of Illinois Route 131 and 14th Street/Casimir Pulaski Drive could be improved by modernizing the existing traffic signals and replacement of the controller, cabinet, posts and mast arms; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of Illinois and Lake County are desirous of entering into an agreement for the above referenced improvement, a draft copy of which is attached hereto; and

 

WHEREAS, an appropriation of funds is required.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this Lake County Board, that the County Board Chair, the County Clerk, and the County Engineer of Lake County are authorized, and they are directed to execute an agreement, and any subsequent amendments, for the traffic signal improvement at the intersection of Illinois Route 131 and 14th Street/Casimir Pulaski Drive.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Engineer shall transmit, in writing, the final agreement, and any subsequent amendments, to be executed by the County Board Chair and the County Clerk, and grant plan and specification approval to IDOT.  

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there is appropriated $20,000 of ¼% Sales Tax for Transportation funds, and designated as Section 20-00999-75-TL.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this agreement, and any subsequent amendments, when executed in their final form, be submitted to IDOT for their approval and final processing.
