Discussion of Local Tree and Native Plant Programs.
Staff Summary
• At its November 2019 meeting, the Committee directed staff to amend its 2020 Work Plan to include the development of a tree initiative. The Committee specifically directed staff to explore program options aimed at encouraging residential planting of trees and native plants, assessing the County’s tree and native planting practices on their campuses and along rights-of-way, and identifying opportunities for additional woodland protection.
• Based on best practice research, the sustainability team is returning to present an overview of existing tree and native plant programs within Lake County for Committee’s consideration and discussion. This presentation is intended to serve as the first in a series of presentations to discuss opportunities for additional tree protection and enhancement throughout Lake County.
