Staff Summary
* The Illinois Department of Human Services recently announced that the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit was awarded $14,600 in Redeploy Illinois Planning Grant funding beginning June 1, 2020.
* The grant will assist the Courts in determining effective intervention strategies for at-risk youth between the ages of 13 and18 who, despite a range of intervention systems, continue to struggle and recidivate in the juvenile justice system.
* Funds will be used to contract with a local university for an in-depth analysis of the case files of each juvenile committed to the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice for the last three years.
* The review will identify any gaps in service and assess decision points in the juvenile justice system.
* The planning grant may assist in planning for future funding opportunities to implement new programs for youth.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Illinois Department of Human Services recently announced that the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit was awarded $14,600 in Redeploy Illinois Planning Grant funding beginning June 1, 2020; and

WHEREAS, the funding will assist the Court in determining effective intervention strategies for at-risk youth, aged 13-18, that despite a range of intervention systems continue to struggle and recidivate in the juvenile justice system; and

WHEREAS, future funding opportunities to implement new programs for youth may result from any identified gaps in service; and

WHEREAS, the County Board must authorize the execution of a program agreement and an emergency appropriation of $14,600 to accept and implement this grant.
