RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, the Lake County Board, at its June 9, 2020 meeting, recognized the month of June 2020 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) “Pride Month” throughout Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS, the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969 marked a historic moment in the gay liberation movement when thousands of marchers took to the streets to demonstrate against hate and discrimination; and

 

WHEREAS, June 28, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the first Pride March held in New York City in commemoration of the Stonewall Uprising; and

 

WHEREAS, Lake County is committed to supporting the rights of dignity, worth, and freedom of the LGBTQ community and calls upon its residents to embrace these principles and work to eliminate prejudice.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the LGBTQ Pride Flag be raised on June 26, 2020 through July 3, 2020 in the Lincoln Plaza at the Lake County Administrative Complex in Waukegan in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first LGBTQ Pride March and in support of the Lake County LGBTQ Community.
