Joint resolution authorizing an agreement with the Newport Township Fire Protection District to provide temporary emergency fire protection services for the intersection improvements of Wadsworth Road at Dilleys Road and appropriating $300,000 of ¼% Sales Tax for Transportation funds.

• The agreement was approved by the Newport Township Fire Protection District on February 12, 2020.
• This project is included in the highway improvements program with construction planned to begin in 2020, and designated as Section 17-00076-19-CH.

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Wadsworth Road, County Highway 17, and Dilleys Road south of Wadsworth Road, County Highway 15, are designated routes on the County highway system; and
WHEREAS, to ensure the free flow of traffic and the safety and welfare of the motoring public, Lake County is desirous of improving the intersection of Wadsworth Road and Dilleys Road by constructing a roundabout; and
WHEREAS, the intersection of Wadsworth Road and Dilleys Road will need to be closed in order to construct the roundabout; and
WHEREAS, the Newport Township Fire Protection District (Fire District) provides fire protection services for the area surrounding the project and uses Wadsworth Road as a primary means of crossing I-94; and
WHEREAS, the Fire District desires additional temporary staff at its Fire Station Number Two in order to reduce response times during the intersection closure; and
WHEREAS, Lake County and the Fire District are desirous of entering into an agreement stating the terms and conditions for providing temporary fire protection services during the intersection closure, a draft copy of which is attached hereto; and
WHEREAS, an appropriation of funds is required.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by this Lake County Board, that the County Board Chair, the County Clerk, and the County Engineer of Lake County, Illinois, are authorized, and are hereby directed to enter into an agreement and any subsequent amendments, between Lake County and the Fire District to provide for temporary fire protection services during the closure of the intersection of Wadsworth Road and Dilleys Road.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Engineer shall transmit, in writing, the final agreement and any amendments, to be executed by the County Board Chair and the County Clerk.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that there is hereby appropriated $300,000 of ¼% Sales Tax for Transportation funds for these temporary fire protection services, and designated as Section 17-00076-19-CH.
