SPECIAL RECOGNITION

 

WHEREAS, African American History Month is a time for all Americans to reflect on and celebrate the many achievements and contributions made by African Americans to our communities and our nation; and

 

WHEREAS, during African American History Month, we remember the stories and teachings of those who took a stance against prejudice to build lives of dignity and opportunity and advanced the cause of civil rights; and

 

WHEREAS, African Americans have made valuable and lasting contributions to Lake County, the State of Illinois, and the United States of America, achieving exceptional success in all aspects of society including business, education, politics, science, and the arts; and

 

WHEREAS, America's greatness is a testament to generations of courageous individuals who, in the face of uncomfortable truths, accepted that the work of perfecting our Nation is unending and strived to expand the reach of freedom to all; and

 

WHEREAS, Lake County’s diversity is a source of pride for our community, and Lake County recognizes that at every level of American society, people of all races and backgrounds contribute to our democracy and strengthen our communities, culture, and economy.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED that the Lake County Board does hereby celebrate February as African American History Month; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RECOGNIZED that this County Board encourages residents to use African American History Month as an opportunity to reflect on and share the significant contributions, successes, and challenges of African Americans throughout our history to strengthen our collective resolve to live up to the ideals of freedom, equality and justice for all.
