Title

Revisions to Lake County Ordinance to Restrict Groundwater Use as a Potable Source Near the Hoffelder Closed Landfill Site - Mackey

Body

On August 13, 2019, the Lake County Board approved an ordinance that applied specifically to certain properties on Milwaukee Avenue south of Deerfield Road in unincorporated Lake County. The ordinance prohibited current or future use of groundwater as a potable (drinking water) supply on the specified parcels, two of which contain a closed landfill, and others that are across Milwaukee Avenue to the west.

The owner of the property presented the Ordinance to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) for approval and acceptance. The IEPA requested the proposed revisions to the ordinance. All of the requested revisions were for clarity; there are no substantive changes to the ordinance.

A public hearing was held on January 27, 2020 to receive comments on the proposed changes, and no comments were received.

Suggested Motion

To approve the proposed ordinance revisions as presented.
