Update and discussion on Food Policy Councils.
Staff Summary
• At the August 2019 meeting, staff provided an overview of the structure, mission, and activities of several midwestern Food Policy Councils and discussed existing local food groups located in Lake County.
• A Food Policy Council is a nonpartisan form of engagement aimed at convening citizens and government officials to examine a local food system, development policy recommendations, and provide guidance on business development and local food planning.
• Based on Committee feedback, the Sustainability Team completed additional research regarding policy achievements, initiatives, and funding sources of Food Policy Councils.
