PrEP Community Outreach - Johansen

At the October 10, 2019 meeting, the Health Department was asked by Member Brown to address measures being taken to inform the community, specifically African American women, about PrEP and HIV. The Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Program has:
1. Provided three PrEP training sessions over the last 3 years for all LCHD clinical staff, providers, support staff, and behavioral health providers. The focus of the training is on reducing the stigma surrounding the education and prescription of PrEP to not only gay and bisexual men, but to anyone with a history of an STI.
2. Conducted outreach to 15 private providers in Lake County who had the highest rates of diagnosing STI’s, including multiple OB/GYN providers.
3. Plans to conduct marketing campaigns in 2020 targeting not only gay and bisexual men, but also African American women in the community.
