SPECIAL RECOGNITION
WHEREAS, in recognition of the bravery, unwavering commitment, and heroism of military veterans who served in the United States Armed Forces, the United States annually observes November 11 as Veterans Day; and
WHEREAS, our military has preserved our freedoms with honor and distinction, with some making the ultimate sacrifice for the safety and security of Americans; and
WHEREAS, Lake County’s Veterans Assistance Commission continues to play a vital role in supporting our veterans and their families by providing local resources and assistance programs; and
WHEREAS, there is an estimated 34,117 American Armed Forces veterans residing in Lake County; and
WHEREAS, Lake County has a unique role in our nation’s defense as the home of Great Lakes Naval Station and the Fort Sheridan Reserve Center; and
WHEREAS, Lake County is proud to recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crisis, and in war.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RECOGNIZED, the Lake County Board honors the courage and sacrifice of all America’s servicemen and women who serve in the armed forces and hopes for the safe return of those who are currently serving to defend American freedom and values.
