Staff Summary
• Staff was tasked in June to begin research into the topic of Food Policy Councils.
• A Food Policy Council is a nonpartisan form of engagement aimed at convening citizens and government officials to examine a local food system, development policy recommendations, and provide guidance on business development and local food planning.
• Staff has conducted a preliminary review of the purpose and scope of Food Policy Councils, an assessment of active local food groups in Lake County, and an analysis of existing regional Food Policy Councils and their respective structures.
