Title
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Teaching Health Center Grant Application - Pfister
Body
HRSA has released a 2020 funding opportunity for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) to apply to become Teaching Health Centers (THC). While some existing FQHCs will receive continuation funding through this application, the funding opportunity does provide an opportunity for up to five new FQHCs to be funded as a THC.
THCs are designed as a mechanism to provide expanded primary care experience to medical school residents across several disciplines, including psychiatry. The grant provides up to $150,000 in financial support per full-time resident position. This cost covers the payments to residents and the costs to administer the program.
LCHD is working with Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFUMS) to form a consortium that will apply for this grant. The consortium is looking to add two full-time psychiatry resident positions. Two resident positions would result in a final grant amount of $300,000 per year. The grant is for four years so the total amount would be $1,200,000. LCHD would be the recipient of grant funds. Residents would add capacity to LCHD facilities providing psychiatry services.
Suggested Motion
To approve a Teaching Health Center grant application to the Health Resources and Services Administration requesting funding to support two psychiatric residents.
