Illinois Department of Public Health Local Health Protection Program Grant - Pfister

Body

The Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center (LCHD/CHC) has an active Local Health Protection grant for state fiscal year 2019 (July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019). The grant is awarded through the Illinois Department of Public Health. On April 30, 2019, LCHD/CHC was informed it had been awarded an additional $220,427 through this program. New funds were awarded to support the promotion and distribution of vaccines. Expenses back to December 1, 2018 are allowable but all funds need to be expended by June 30, 2019. Given this timeline, and the absence of a Board of Health meeting in June, LCHD/CHC is bringing this agenda item to the Board in May for approval subject to contract approval by the State. The new funding will support previous expenses for private Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) vaccines and for Advanced Practice Nurse time operating a once a week immunizations clinic. New expenses (to occur in May and June 2019) include staffing time for in-reach/outreach, additional CHIP vaccines, adult vaccines, fridges, data loggers and marketing materials. The appropriation is unbalanced as all proposed staffing time will be a tax offset for existing employees. Previous CHIP vaccines are also excluded from the expense budget as these expenses have already posted in county budget.

Suggested Motion

To approve the additional grant funding of $220,427 from the Illinois Department of Public Health to support the promotion and distribution of immunizations subject to contract approval by the State.
