Staff Training Update
Recently all dental staff engaged in an update for infection control. Practice managers as well as office managers were also present. Agenda Items included:
* Infection Control Update and In-service
* New Policy for Infection Control and Sterilization (Draft)
* New Work Flows
* Electronic Monitors
* Audit Data Updates
* Hand Washing Audits
* The Joint Commission Survey Preparation
* Hand Lotion Update (Provon lotion)
* Compliance Issues
* Water Bottle Maintenance
* New Process - Sterilization of Slow Speeds (see IFU)
* Proper Utilization and Compliance with PPE Requirements
Dental Department Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance Activities
Recently the Dental Quality Improvement Team (DQIT) convened to finalize the action plan of activities for the dental department. Our purpose is to ensure that a comprehensive Quality Improvement/Assurance Plan exists for the dental program. It also provides information which will assist the dental staff in the management of the Dental Program. One of the first activities that we have engaged in has been the development of a competency skills checklist for dental assistants. We also will be engaged in scheduling site meetings to review with staff the new policy as it relates to sterilization and infection control. This activity will be in conjunction with our IP Specialist. Additional activities are under development.
Dental Dashboard Development
Several months ago, I met with the Health Informatics Team to discuss the development of a dental dashboard for the dental department. The purpose of the dashboard is to serve as a data resource for providers to review key performance indicators regarding dental operations. I plan to include additional data sets in the near future. Some to the first data sets included in the dashboard include:
1. Productivity Data for Dental Providers
2. The HRSA Dental Sealant Measure
3. Dental Fluoride Applications in Children Age 0-...
