Recommendation to Approve New Governing Council Members

Members of the Nominating Committee had the opportunity to interview two prospective new members to the Governing Council, Miriam Smith and Cynthia Vargas.
Miriam Smith is a consumer with the Lake County Health Department. She is currently a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Lake County board member, a member of the Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force, facilitator of the Familia a Familia program for NAMI, and a facilitator of the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) for the Illinois Department of Mental Health. She is enthusiastic and eager to become a member of the Governing Council.
Cynthia Vargas is a former member of the Governing Council and works in the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. She is also President of the Latino Coalition of Lake County and a member of the Lake County Opioid Initiative (LCOI).
With the acceptance of these two new members, the Governing Council will have a board of eleven members.
Suggested Motion
To approve the recommendation of the Nominating Committee and accept the membership of Miriam Smith and Cynthia Vargas to the Governing Council effective February 2019 with a 1-year term.
