Overview of submission for National Association of Counties (NACo) Legislative Priorities.
Staff Summary
• Each year, during its annual conference in July, NACo considers and adopts legislative priorities that guide NACo’s legislative advocacy at the federal level for the next year. NACo members can submit issues for possible inclusion in the annual legislative process.
• During its Legislative Conference in March, NACo considers submissions from its members for interim legislative and policy resolutions of new issues of interest or concern not covered in the annual priorities to guide NACo’s advocacy from March until its Annual Conference in July.
• NACo’s current legislative priorities includes support of policies to promote mental health, substance abuse treatment and justice reform - including the deflection initiatives as submitted by Lake County in 2018.
• This agenda item is intended to inform the Committee of the program, identify any interim issues that warrant an interim legislative priority resolution, and start the process to identify legislative priorities for submission in NACo’s annual conference in July.
