Resolution recognizing Vance Wyatt for his years of service as a Lake County Board Member.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Vance D. Wyatt was appointed to the Lake County Board and the Lake County Forest Preserves District Board in June 2017; and

 

WHEREAS, following in the footsteps of the honorable Lake County Board Member Audrey H. Nixon, Vance served the residents of District 14 by focusing on improving opportunities for youth, promoting economic development and a living wage, and reducing homelessness, recidivism, unemployment and underemployment; and  

 

WHEREAS, Vance earned his master’s degree in business administration from Concordia University of Chicago and his Bachelor of Science degree in business management with a minor in public policy from National-Louis University; and

 

WHEREAS, at only 20 years old, Vance was appointed as trustee of the North Chicago Public Library. During his six-year tenure, the board was able to secure $3 million in funding towards remodeling the library and upgrading the library’s operating systems and technology; and

 

WHEREAS, prior to his appointment to the County Board, Vance served as commissioner on the Foss Park District Board from 2015 to 2017, where he became vice president and, ultimately, president of the board; and 

 

WHEREAS, as a County Board member, Vance has served on various committees including as vice-chair of the Ad Hoc Government Reform Implementation Committee and as a member on the Ethics and Oversight Committee, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Law and Judicial Committee, the Rules Committee and the Public Building Commission; and

 

WHEREAS, as vice-chair of the Ad Hoc Government Reform Implementation Committee, Vance has provided valuable input in the evaluation of the recommendations of the Lake County Commission on Government Reform and Accountability and brought forward a Redistricting Framework that establishes an Independent Advisory Commission on Redistricting (IACR) and aims to promote fairness and independence of partisan political considerations in the apportionment process, as well as provide transparency, and allow for public participation; and

 

WHEREAS, Vance served on the Lake County Forest Preserve District Board as a member of the Operations and Rules committees; and

 

WHEREAS, Vance has held various political positions, including as a committeeman of the Democratic Precinct, vice-chairman of the Lake County Democratic Party and chairman of the Shields Township Democratic Party; and

 

WHEREAS, Vance has dedicated his time to community involvement as a member of the Illinois Library Association Public Policy Committee, the National-Louis University Leadership Council, and the City of North Chicago’s Comprehensive Planning and Strategic Planning Committee.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lake County Board offers its gratitude and appreciation to Vance D. Wyatt for his public service to the residents of District 14 and Lake County; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Board does hereby wish Vance D. Wyatt all the best in his future endeavors.
