RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, elected in 2012, Tom Weber has served as the District 3 representative on the Lake County Board and the Lake County Forest Preserves District Board; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout his service on the Lake County Board, Tom has focused on maintaining fiscal responsibility, economic growth, and transparency for the residents in Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS, as a County Board Member, Tom served on several standing committees including as current chair of the Planning, Building and Zoning Committee and as a member of the Law and Judicial, the Health and Community Services, the Rules, the Ad Hoc Government Reform Implementation and the Ethics and Oversight committees; and

 

WHEREAS, under Tom’s leadership as the Planning, Building and Zoning vice-chairman and his in-depth experience and insight in the construction market, Lake County adopted the 2012 International Building Code, with minimal local amendments, to make it easier for the public and contractors to navigate and understand the building process; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom was a strong proponent in simplifying the permit process for residents in unincorporated Lake County by improving the customer’s experience in obtaining permits and enhancing efficiencies in the Planning, Building and Development Department; and 

 

WHEREAS, during his tenure on the County Board, Tom expanded the County’s external shared services network, executing five new intergovernmental agreements with local municipalities for plan reviews and inspections; and

 

WHEREAS, as chair of the Planning, Building and Zoning Committee, Tom participated in the review and execution of contracts with Tyler-Energov, which eliminated over a dozen legacy software systems and linked all the County’s land departments under a new integrated permit and inspection system. Tom’s input was invaluable, as the new system reduces the amount of time it takes for permits and inspections, and opens the door for shared service opportunities with other jurisdictions providing for a more cost-effective option and streamlined permitting; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom was supportive of reinvesting all of unincorporated Lake County’s video gaming revenue back into the community via grants to provide education and outreach for those suffering with gambling addiction as well as behavioral health services; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom served as an active member on the Lake County Forest Preserves District Board as a liaison to the Youth Conservation Corps and as a member of the Legislative, the Land Preservation and Acquisition, the Planning and Restoration, and the Planning committees; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom also has served as a member of the Stormwater Management Commission, the Northwest Lake County Wholesale Policy Advisory Committee, and the Public Building Commission; and

 

WHEREAS, From an early age, Tom was involved in many civic organizations including the Boys Scouts of America, where he earned the prestigious honor of Eagle Scout, and the Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps, where he became a company commander and received the Sojourners Award for Service to Community; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom’s professional and community involvement includes a myriad of organizations over the years: the Round Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Villa and Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce, the Lake Villa Township Lions Club, the Lake Villa Historical Society, Bringing Everyone’s Strengths Together (B.E.S.T), the Lake County Farm Bureau, the Lindenhurst Kiwanis Club, the Lake County Chief of Police Association, the University of Illinois Extension Advisory Council, Busy Brains Children’s Museum Board of Directors, and the American Aid Society of German Descendants; and

 

WHEREAS, a lifelong Lake Villa Township resident, Tom is married to his wife Becki of 29 years and is the proud father of two children; and

 

WHEREAS, Tom was elected as an Illinois State Representative in November 2018 and will continue to represent Lake County residents as he takes on this new role.

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lake County Board offers its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Tom Weber for his years of dedicated public service to his district and to the residents of Lake County; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Board does hereby extend its best wishes to Tom Weber on all of his future endeavors.
