Resolution recognizing Sidney Mathias for his years of service as a Lake County Board Member.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias was appointed to the Lake County Board and Lake County Forest Preserves District Board in 2014, and subsequently elected in 2016, to serve as the representative for the 20th District; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias received his bachelor’s degree from Roosevelt University and his Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias was elected as Village Trustee for the Village of Buffalo Grove in 1988 and has since held many elected positions, including Village President of Buffalo Grove for eight years and Illinois State Representative for 14 years; and
WHEREAS, as a County Board Member, Sidney Mathias served as the vice-chair of the Lake County Board’s Ethics and Oversight Committee, and was a member of the Planning Building and Zoning, Public Works and Transportation, Ad Hoc Government Reform Implementation, and Law and Judicial committees; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias utilized his knowledge of the legislative process to co-chair the Lake County Ad-Hoc Legislative Committee, evaluating legislation that affects Lake County residents and advocating on their behalf; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias served as vice-chair of the Planning Committee and chair of the Diversity and Cultural Awareness Committee with the Lake County Forest Preserves, where he worked to maintain natural and open spaces for Lake County residents; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias advocated for effective transportation infrastructure in Lake County, including the proposed extension of Route 53 and the expansion of other thoroughfares to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate economic development; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias served as the chairman of the North Central Service (NCS) Mayoral Task Force, which expanded Metra’s NCS Commuter line to Buffalo Grove; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias advocated for fiscal responsibility in Lake County, guiding the County towards balanced budgets, efficient operations, and transparent actions to help the County preserve its AAA credit rating; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias advocated for effective and transparent government, working to ensure proper oversight of County expenditures while maintaining effective communication to his constituents via email newsletters, postcards, and in-person events; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias continues to serve his community in civic roles, including as chairman of the Holocaust Services Committee for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, as a member of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and as a member of the Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Sidney Mathias has been a Buffalo Grove resident since 1979, alongside his wife of forty-six years, Rita, a retired teacher who taught in school districts 102 and 96. Together, they are proud parents of two sons, both rabbis, and eight grandchildren; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, offers its sincere gratitude and appreciation to Sidney Mathias for his years of outstanding and dedicated public service to his community and to the citizens of Lake County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Board offers its best wishes to Sidney Mathias in all his future endeavors.
