RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, April is recognized as National Child Abuse Prevention month in the United States as well as Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS, child abuse is considered to be one of our nation’s most serious public health problems with scientific studies documenting the link between the abuse and neglect of children and a wide range of medical, emotional, psychological and behavioral disorders; and

 

WHEREAS, preventing child abuse and neglect is a problem that depends on community involvement, and effective child abuse prevention programs are successful because of partnerships created among state and local government agencies, schools, faith communities, civic organizations, law enforcement agencies and the business community; and

 

WHEREAS, created in 2011 to keep children safe, Blue Kids Lake County promotes public awareness of child abuse through the creation and display of Blue Kids signs through the county during the month of April and by providing educational material on its website; and

 

WHEREAS, there are many social service organizations in Lake County, as well as park districts, libraries, exchange and rotary clubs, municipal and civic organizations, and private citizens that have partnered with Blue Kids Lake County to prevent child abuse; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that April be recognized as National Child Abuse Prevention Month; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOVLED, that the Lake County Board does hereby thank Blue Kids Lake County for the work it does to prevent child abuse and urges all residents to increase their participation in strengthening families, thereby preventing child abuse and creating healthier communities.
