Approval of $4,998 in funding from the Peoria Memorial Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Inc. - Dorn

On January 2, 2018, the Peoria Memorial Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation awarded the LCHD/CHC $4,998 in grant funding. Based on current prices, LCHD/CHC projects that at least 35 uninsured women in Lake County will receive a screening mammogram as a result of this additional funding. Services will be coordinated and provided by staff working in the Lake County Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer program (IBCCP). LCHD/CHC is currently on priority for IBCCP funds which are available for women over 50 and women with a need for diagnostic mammograms. Komen funding allows the Lake IBCCP program to broaden its population served by providing screening mammograms for women between the ages of 40 and 49.
LCHD/CHC has received financial support from the Susan G. Komen Foundation since 2005. Since 2014, 100% of funds have been dedicated to screening mammograms. LCHD/CHC did receive a reduction in grant funding for the 2018 grant year (from $25,000 in 2017 to $4,998 in 2018). This will decrease the number of women that can be served with Komen funds from ~175 to ~35. The grant period for the award is January 1, 2018 - December 31, 2018.
Suggested Motion
To approve the grant funding of $4,998 from the Peoria Memorial Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation allocated to the breast and cervical cancer services program within the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center.
