Joint resolution accepting the Highway Safety Program Grant (State Award Identification Number (SAIN) 343-2773), awarded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and authorizing an emergency appropriation in the amount of $113,013.20 for fiscal year (FY)2017 through FY2018.

 

Staff Summary

                     The Sheriff’s Office has applied for and has been awarded an IDOT federal FY2018 Highway Safety Program Grant in the amount of $113,013.20.

                     The main objective of the grant is to conduct specific traffic enforcement campaigns that will maximize road safety and provide financial assistance for purchasing traffic enforcement equipment.

                     Traffic enforcement campaigns include roadside safety checks and impaired driving enforcement.

                     The grant requires seven mandatory enforcement campaigns and two optional enforcement campaigns.

                     All mandatory enforcement campaigns and both optional campaigns will be conducted.

                     There is no match required for this grant.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, said traffic enforcement campaigns held in FY2016 through FY2017 have led to a total of 976 citations being issued, 281 of those citations were seat belt violations and 25 Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests; and,

WHEREAS, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office believes that continuing to conduct these traffic enforcement campaigns in FY2017 through FY2018 will continue to keep the roadways safe; and,

WHEREAS, said grants will fund the overtime costs associated with conducting these traffic enforcement campaigns; and,

WHERAS, the Law and Judicial Committee approved submitting the grant application for SAIN 343-2773 at their April 5, 2017 meeting (Agenda Item # 17-0364); and,

WHERAS, the Financial and Administrative Committee approved the submitting the grant application for SAIN 343-2773 at their April 6, 2017, meeting (Agenda Item #17-0364.)

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the Lake County Sheriff’s Office accept Funding Opportunity federal FY2018 Highway Safety Program Grant (SAIN 343-2773) and the emergency appropriation of the grant amount of $113,013.20 for FY2017 through FY2018.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the grant revenue in the amount of $113,013.20 from the Illinois Department of Transportation be deposited into account #101- 3001110-45020.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Sheriff’s Office shall be the grant manager for the FFY18 Highway Safety Program Grant, and accurate records of all necessary grant compliance requirements shall be kept by the Sheriff’s Office.
