* Funding was previously approved as a facility assessment project in the Corporate Capital Improvement Plan (CCIP) and carried over to 2017 for jail elevator modernization.
* An invitation to bid was issued and extended to 22 vendors and sealed bids were received from three contractors, of which two were non-responsive.
* ThyssenKrupp Elevator, Lombard, Illinois, was determined to be the lowest responsive and responsible bidder who best meets the needs of the County in the amount $553,340, and the contract will be managed by the Facilities Department of Finance and Administrative Services.
* This resolution also authorizes elevator maintenance during and after the elevator modernization project in the amount $495 per month and will be funded within the Facilities Operation budget to ensure continuity of operations.
* In addition to modernizing the existing elevators, the motors will be switched from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) voltage, with variable frequency drives, providing greater energy efficiency. Due to the critical nature of these elevators, this project also includes redundant systems and door protection.
