Resolution recognizing and commending the Lake County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy Unit for their dedicated and valuable service to the Lake County Sheriff's Department and the residents of Lake County.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, in the late 1970’s, concerned citizens organized to patrol neighborhoods and notify the Sheriff’s Office of suspicious activity; and
WHEREAS, soon after, the citizens issued a plea to the Lake County Sheriff to merge as one group and to be deputized; and
WHEREAS, in 1978, sixteen members were sworn in as the first Reserve Deputies of Lake County; and
WHEREAS, today, the Deputy Reserve Unit today consists of 50 dedicated members who volunteer their time to augment the Sheriff’s Department during natural and man-made emergencies, traffic and crown control, searches for missing persons, crime scene evidence search, and provide assistance to local municipal police department and charitable organization functions; and
WHEREAS, Reserve Deputy recruits initially receive approximately 145 hours of training over a five to six-month period with refresher training on a yearly basis in various areas; and
WHEREAS, men and women volunteer as Reserve Deputies out of a sense of community responsibility, and last year, volunteers contributed over 17,270 hours to the County, resulting in a savings to taxpayers of more than $532,787; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, the County Board does recognize the efforts and contributions of the Lake County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy Unit; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Lake County Board does hereby commend the Lake County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy Unit for their dedicated and valuable service to the Lake County Sheriff's Department and the residents of Lake County.
