Joint resolution approving the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the United States Marshals Service.

Staff Summary
* The Lake County Sheriff's Office Warrants Division will continue to pursue Lake County warrants, with the primary focus being warrants that fit the criteria for a Federal Identification (FID) Number. Working with the Marshals Service does not mean a change in our Standard Operating Procedures.
* The deputies that serve on the Regional Fugitive Task Force will receive training and equipment and have the ability to utilize the state of the art virtual training facility that the Marshals have in Chicago.
* Participation on the task force means that we will have the authority to travel to other states to assist with fugitive apprehension and the task force will assist with international extraditions.
* The Sheriff's Office will be eligible to receive overtime reimbursements from the United States Marshals Service, for up to $17,000 annually, for when they attempt to serve task force warrants.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, the Sheriff's Office will continue to pursue Lake County Warrants and is actively working with the United States Marshals Service as part of a joint law enforcement operation as a task force member; and

WHEREAS, the primary mission of the task force it to investigate and arrest persons that have active State and Federal Warrants for their arrest; and

WHEREAS, the Sheriff's Office benefits from the relationship with the Marshals Service by receiving access to training and equipment and will be given the authority to travel to other states to assist with fugitive apprehension; and,

WHEREAS, the Sheriff's Office will be eligible for overtime reimbursement, up to $17,000.00 annually, from the Marshals Service when serving task force warrants.
