Staff Summary
* This is an application for the federal JAG Program in which funding supports a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system.
* Under this program, the City of Waukegan, the City of Zion, and Lake County on behalf of the Lake County State's Attorney's Office, are eligible for a joint award of $46,965 in fiscal year (FY) 2016 grant funds.
* The potential allocation of the eligible funds is $10,000 to Lake County on behalf of the State's Attorney's Office, $26,965 to the City of Waukegan, and $10,000 to the City of Zion.
* The State's Attorney's Office will use the $10,000 to enhance youth awareness, education, and outreach in Lake County and support child victims of crime through the purchase of brochures, printed materials, posters, outreach supplies and interview equipment for the Children's Advocacy Center, which handles all cases involving children who have been physically and/or sexually abused in Lake County.
* The source of program funding is 100 percent federal JAG; no match is required.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Lake County, on behalf of the Lake County State's Attorney's Office, the City of Waukegan, and the City of Zion has applied for an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant that provides grant monies to local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system; and

WHEREAS, the Lake County State's Attorney's Office will use this funding to enhance a youth awareness, education, support, and outreach effort; and
