Title

Tobacco Free Lake County Nicotine Replacement Therapy Fee Increase Proposal - Pfister

Body

Research strongly demonstrates that professional tobacco counseling in conjunction with appropriate Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is the most effective strategy for tobacco use cessation.  Tobacco Free Lake County’s (TFLC) program employs a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) who sees an average of 150 unique individuals seeking tobacco cessation each year.

Previously, we purchased NRT from GlaxoSmithKline with Tobacco grant funds at the discounted government rate of:

$21.00 for a 2-week supply box of patches

$23.90 for a 2-week supply box of the gum

$26.55 for a 2-week supply box of the lozenge

In order to reduce financial barriers and to assure buy-in from the client, the Board of Health approved a further fee reduction in January 2011 and the actual fee charged to clients for NRT are as follows:

$10.00 for a 2-week supply box of patches

$15.00 for a 2-week supply box of the gum

$15.00 for a 2-week supply box of the lozenge

Recently, IDPH no longer financially supports direct cessation services, including the provision of NRT.

In order to cover the costs of the NRT for cessation services, we propose an increase in the following fees to cover our purchase cost:

From $10.00 for a 2-week supply box of patches to $21.00

From $15.00 for a 2-week supply box of the gum to $24.00

From $15.00 for a 2-week supply box of the lozenge to $27.00

Suggested Motion

To approve the fees as listed above for the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center Tobacco Free program effective December 1, 2015.
