Resolution proclaiming the week of October 13 through 16, 2015 as Juror Appreciation Week.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, the Judges of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, Lake County, Illinois, have requested that the week of October 13 through 16, 2015 be declared “Juror Appreciation Week” in Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS, trial by jury is an essential part of every American’s birthright as guaranteed by the state and federal constitutions; and

 

WHEREAS, our democracy has been dependent for over 230 years on the common sense and hard work of jurors; and

 

WHEREAS, approximately 8,500 citizens each year report for jury service in Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS, each juror must make an important sacrifice in their personal, family, and

professional lives to devote the necessary time to serve their country as jurors; and

 

WHEREAS, each juror’s dedicated service permits the Lake County Judicial System to fairly and justly adjudicate thousands of cases each year; and

 

WHEREAS, it is only proper and fitting that we recognize, give credit to, and applaud the unwavering commitment of past, present and future jurors to the ideal of justice and the American way of life.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the week of October 13-16, 2015 be and hereby is declared “Juror Appreciation Week,” and the Lake County Board urges all residents of Lake County to join in recognizing the vital contribution of past, present and future jurors to our system of justice and to our democracy.
