Resolution recognizing the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, on July 26, 2015, the Americans with Disabilities Act will mark a major milestone, celebrating 25 years since its passage of comprehensive civil rights that address the needs of people with disabilities, prohibiting discrimination in employment, public services, accommodations, and telecommunications; and

 

WHEREAS, Lake County affirms the principals of equality and inclusion for persons with disabilities, as set forth for in the Americans with Disabilities Act and as exemplified by the State of Illinois, to ensure that people with disabilities be fully integrated into the fabric of our society; and

 

WHEREAS, numerous community organizations and agencies, provide valuable resources to people with disabilities, their families and caregivers that promote equal opportunity, economic power, and independent living; and

 

WHEREAS, on July 18, 2015, the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act will be commemorated in the Chicago Metro Area, Illinois, at the Disability Pride Parade, a place that signifies unity, optimism and faith.

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, the County Board does hereby recognize July 26, 2015 as Americans with Disabilities Act Awareness Day and call upon Lake County citizens to formally acknowledge the importance and significance of the Act and the accomplishments it has brought forth; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this County Board does hereby commend the agencies and organizations, including Lake County Center for Independent Living, for their work with residents, families and the public to bring forth the promise of hope and freedom that is envisioned by the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
