Joint resolution authorizing the application, acceptance, and emergency appropriation of a 2015 Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $8,681 for the purpose of enhancing the State’s Attorney’s Office’s Special Programs/Community Awareness Division’s capacity to provide awareness, education, and outreach in Lake County.

 

Staff Summary

                     This is an application for the federal Justice Assistant Grant Program in which funding supports a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system.

                     Under this program, the City of Waukegan, the City of Zion, and Lake County on behalf of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, are eligible for a joint award of $43,405 in fiscal year (FY) 2015 grant funds.

                     The potential allocation of the eligible funds is $8,681 to Lake County on behalf of the State’s Attorney’s Office, $26,043 to the City of Waukegan, and $8,681 to the City of Zion.

                     The State’s Attorney’s Office will use the $8,681 to improve community outreach in Lake County by supporting the purchase of brochures, handbills, printed materials, posters and outreach supplies.

                     The source of program funding is 100% federal JAG; no match is required.

RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Lake County, on behalf of the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, the City of Waukegan, and the City of Zion has applied for an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant that provides grant monies to local governments to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system; and

 

WHEREAS, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office will use this funding to enhance a community awareness effort; and

 

WHEREAS, Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant is in the amount of $8,681, and it is necessary to appropriate this amount; and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary and required by the Granting Agency that a Memorandum of Understanding between Lake County, the City of Waukegan and the City of Zion be executed in order to define how the grant funds will be disbursed.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this County Board of Lake County, Illinois, that the acceptance and execution of an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant from the United State Department of Justice for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office is hereby authorized; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that an emergency appropriation in the amount of $8,681 is hereby authorized for the JAG 2015 Program in 101-3330010-79950-000-000-000-(reporting category to be set by the controller), with offsetting revenue of $8,681 in 101-3330010-45334-000-000-000-(reporting category to be set by the controller).

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Chairman of the Board, the Lake County State's Attorney, and the Lake County Treasurer are hereby authorized to execute the necessary documentation in order to accept the grant renewal.
