RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service; and
WHEREAS, Relay For Life is a "Celebration of Life" where people "Celebrate, Remember and Fight Back" and is the American Cancer Society's nationwide signature activity; and
WHEREAS, Relay For Life is a community event that celebrates survivors and remembers those who have lost their battle with cancer; and
WHEREAS, because cancer never sleeps, Relay For Life teams spend the night camping out, enjoying music and family activities together, while team members walk around a track relay-style for the duration of this event; and
WHEREAS, Relay For Life events will be held throughout Lake County over the course of the summer as follows: Lake Forest/Lake Bluff on June 6; Lake Zurich Area/ Wauconda/Island Lake on June 6; Buffalo Grove/Stevenson High School on June 12; Southeast Lake County - Deerfield, Bannockburn, Riverwoods, Highland Park, Highwood on June 13; Greater Waukegan, Far North Shore on June 20; GLMV - Vernon Hills on June 27; Gurnee/Wadsworth on July 11; and Grayslake/Round Lake Areas on July 18; and Antioch/Lakes Area July 25.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by County Board Chairman Aaron Lawlor on behalf of the County Board that the summer of 2015 be proclaimed "Relay For Life Summer" in Lake County, and we hereby call upon all Lake County residents to recognize the outstanding contributions and support provided by the American Cancer Society to all who have been touched by cancer.
