Staff Summary
* Existing fees for marriage, civil union, birth and death certificates have not changed since 2008 (marriage license only).
* Operational costs have increased along with an additional expense associated with the need for newly required security paper for birth and death certificates.
* The current fee for a Marriage and Civil Union License is $25 and $8 for a copy of the official Marriage or Civil Union record and the proposed fee is $35 and $10.
* The current fee for certified copies of birth certificates is $8 and the proposed fee is $10.
* The current fee for certified copies of death certificates is $12 and the proposed fee is $14.
* The effective date for these fees is recommended for April 1, 2015.

Body
WHEREAS, the current fee for Marriage and Civil Union Licenses is $25 and $8 for a copy of the official Marriage or Civil Union record; and

WHEREAS, the current fee for birth certificates is $8 and for death certificates is $12; and

WHEREAS, the Lake County Clerk's Office, in coordination with the Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) Department, completed a study of the current costs; and

WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Lake County Clerk's Office, FAS, the Revenue, Records and Legislation and Finance and Administration Committees that the Marriage and Civil Union License fees be raised to $35 and $10 for the copy of the official Marriage or Civil Union record; and

WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Lake County Clerk's Office, FAS, the Revenue, Records and Legislation and Finance and Administration Committees that the fee for a Birth Certificate be raised to $10 and the fee for a Death Certificate to be raised to $14; and

WHEREAS, it is the joint recommendation of said departments and committees that the above rate become effective April 1, 2015.
